Welcome

SB410.net is the website for Starbase 410 a Science fiction and Fantasy club based in Cambridge, England.

Starbase 410 was founded in 1999 and is still going strong today. What started out as a purely Star Trek club has gone from strength to strength and has evolved into so much more. We now incorporate all Science Fiction and quite a bit of Fantasy within our mandate.

Please feel free to browse our website remembering that all content has been submitted by members of our club, if you wish to know more about Starbase 410 or would like to submit to our website please contact one of the e-mail addresses below and either myself (Emma - webmaster) or our secretary (Jaz - enquiries) will get back to you.

There I was minding my own business watching The Unit when an ad for a new series ‘Chuck’ came on. Still paying very little attention until in the back of the picture I saw

Next Month's Meeting
Space Above & BeyondThis month's theme is Alien Invasions by Humans. This is meant to cover the sci-fi where we take to the stars and fight on alien turf rather than them coming here, like in Starship Troopers and Space Above and Beyond. Loosely included would also be shows likeBabylon 5 Stargate, Farscape and Babylon 5.

If you fancy joining us either just come along directions
here or let someone know you are coming by e-mailing enquiries@sb410.net
Last Month's Meeting
The Witch and The WizardWe had a really good meeting. We were few on numbers due to holiday, work and illness but we got into the spirit of things. The Ultimate Ruler Contest was launched and any guilt Emma felt about going all out for the Petrelli campaign when Lisa was ill and unable to counter soon passed and she read out her statement to Bonnie Tyler singing Holding Out For A Hero. The Quiz was a battle of the Sexes and once again the women proved superior to the men particularly when the Narnia questions came up, Tori and Steve had watched it a couple of weeks ago and whilst Steve couldn't remember a lot Tori had no such issues stating "I is a book". The scores were 14 to the boyLittle Wizards and 24 to the girls. Since Steve and Kevin were playing Steve's game when it came to the Lord Of The Rings Trivial Pursuit the remaining 2 men Dave and Rob were put as team leaders and each joined by 2 women, Rob by Rae and Christine and Dave by Emma and Tori. Once again Emma and Tori's knowledge proved superior and that team won a hard fought battle. Both Ann and Rob made an effort and arrived dressed as a witch and Wizard fit for any Harry Potter or Discworld book.

News
Derek Wheatland and Andre SmithNew President
Following the sad death of our club President, Barry Morse, in February Starbase 410 are pleased to announce that after a long and close association with us Derek Wheatland has agreed to take up the mantle and become President of Starbase 410.
As some of you may know Derek is a Jean Luc Picard / Patrick Stewart look-alike. For those who have met him you will know how uncanny that resemblance is. Derek has attended many of our social events over the past few years and we help to raise funds for his adopted charity The Children's Acorn Trust. Derek is very active within the Sci-Fi fan community and we hope that he will continue as our president for many years to come. His trusty Riker (sidekick) Andre Smith will be joining him as Vice-President.

Ultimate Ruler Campaign

Launching at our April meeting will be the Ultimate Ruler Contest. The Election will be contested by two candidates, Harold Saxon aka The Master and Nathan Petrelli aka Sylar.
Online voting is up and running along with all the campaign speeches to date.

Cocktail Party
We are awaiting confirmation from our guest on the date but this years cocktail party will take the form of an Inaugural Ball for the winner of the Ultimate Ruler Contest. We are also running a cocktail making competition and intend to serve the cocktails at the party.
As usual we will be raising money for The Children's Acorn Trust. Ticket prices have yet to be decided but if you would like to register your interest we will let you know ASAP. The more people attending the cheaper it will be so watch this space. To register your interest in tickets please e-mail tickets@sb410.net

Cocktail Competition
We want you to create an original sci-fi based cocktail for this years cocktail party. There will be a winner from each category, Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic, and all palatable cocktails will be served at the cocktail party. The prize in each category is a £5 voucher (yet to be decided).

Rules
1. All Ingredients must be readily available.
2. It must be, as far as you are able to know, an original recipe.
3. The cocktail must be named in a recognisable sci-fi vein.
4. The cocktail must be presented in a 500ml bottle with label.
5. The recipe must be presented on an a4 sheet of paper as if it was the page from a recipe book.
