It
has often been said, ‘that on the battlefield, Klingons tend to forget that
they are carrying a Disruptor.’ while this isn’t strictly true, it is known
that Klingons will use their Disruptors when fighting an enemy at range, but
resort to bladed weapons as soon as they are able to do so. To make use of
these weapons, Klingons traditionally use a Martial art, known as the
Mok’bara, a fighting style most Klingons have been trained in from about
four years old, some go on to master this fighting style, and become De’har
Masters.
First up, is the most
common of Klingon bladed weapons. Nearly all Klingons are trained in its
use, to some degree. It is a weapon that has a deep spiritual and religious
meaning in the Klingon culture. As it is the Sword that Kahless is said to
have forged from a twisted lock of his own hair, plunged first into the
fires of the Kri’stak Volcano, hammered into a blade with his own fists,
before being cooled in the lake of Lusor. It was this legendary deed that
Klingons remember when they wield the ‘Blade of Honour.’
The Bat’leth
Measuring in at around114
centimetres tip to tip around its curved outer edge. Most Bat’leths are made
from composite Baakonite.
The Mek’leth
This is another common Klingon weapon,
Measuring in at around half the length of the Bat’leth. It’s often used in
an over handed slashing motion by most Klingons. Unless they are carrying
them as a pair, then they are often held one blade up as a traditional
Scythe-like sword, and the other blade inverted and held along the forearm
to block an opponent’s blow. In the hands of a Master, blades held in this
configuration, can be quickly switched from defensive to offensive.
Sometimes one blade is used to hold an opponent back while the other is used
to attack them.
The D’ktahg
The D’ktahg, or Warriors knife is the Traditional coming of age
gift for most Klingons upon their ascension to adulthood. It’s for this reason that most
Klingons own at least one. They come in many sizes from a short version
typically worn upon the warrior’s belt to a longer version, which could
almost be mistaken for a short sword. This weapon traditionally has a pair
of secondary spring loaded blades to protect a warrior’s hand while duelling
with such a weapon. Upon the pommel-end is usually some kind of spiked ball
or crown shaped stud used to deliver a vicious backhand smash. Some Klingons
even use this blade at the dining table as an eating implement.
Klingon Directed Energy Weapons
Apart from the previous selection of bladed
weapons, Klingon warriors also regularly carry various handguns and rifles.
