Stasr Trek The Original Series

In the 1960’s a retired Police officer and noted Western writer Gene Roddenberry began laying down Ideas for a new kind of Television show, a positive imagining of the future, a future without many of the social problems that are unfortunately still with us today. The series would allow the socially aware Gene to comment on many of the events of the time, by setting them on other planets, and thinly disguising the issues of the day. For a series that has made Paramount Pictures Millions to date, and has earned itself the nickname of the “The Franchise.” It’s a series that was almost strangled at birth, after Gene told Producers that he had envisioned a *Wagon Train to the Stars (*A famous Western TV. show of the day.) He submitted a Show that many Americans didn’t understand, and thought of as too cerebral.

In 1964 the Series was picked up by Desilu Studios, after being turned down by MGM Studios.

In 1965 the Completed episode entitled ‘The CAGE’ is handed over to NBC, and it is initially rejected. But this show obviously has some merit, as NBC took the unusual step of ordering a second Pilot episode.  ‘Where no man has gone before.’ This series went on for 79 episode over three Seasons.
